The Booktown Writers' Annual Short Story Competition 2013

The results for the Short Story Competition 2013 are:

1st place - Zoe Gilbert and 'Green, How I Love You'
2nd place - Jane Archer and 'Cutting the Roses'
3rd place - Susan MacDonald and 'Torryburn Jean'


Sam Kelly, the judge, highly commended two other stories:

Bull Moose Cabin by Jo Mulkerrin
A Small Space by Josie Turner

and felt that:

Being Only by Sarah Evans
African Violets by Jo Tiddy

were also commendable.



The Booktown Writers' Annual Short Story Competition 2012

Booktown Writers are delighted to announce the results of the first annual Booktown Writers Short Story competition. The winner was Carol McKay with her story Flags and the runner-up was Susan Hoffmann with her story Encounters with Marcia

Carol McKay's short fiction has been published in Gutter, Chapman, Mslexia and other magazines, and anthologised by Birlinn and Luath. Ordinary Domestic: collected short stories (an e-book) was published by Pothole Press in March 2012. In 2010, she spent a month in France after winning the Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship. She teaches creative writing through the Open University and her students tend to be drawn from Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire, and also Lanarkshire, where she lives.
